OPERATION RABBIT CUBA: SWEET ORANGE

A collaboration between Cuban Dance Company and Food of War with Renata Larroyd

Sweet Orange explores the disappearance of the sweet orange from Cuba due to agricultural disease and the collapse of local food systems. Once part of everyday breakfasts and domestic life, the fruit has slowly vanished from the land — and from collective memory itself.

The project reflects on how younger generations no longer remember the taste, smell or cultural presence of the sweet orange, transforming it into a symbol of absence, nostalgia and eroded identity.

Developed in collaboration with a contemporary dance company, the project combines photography and performance to explore memory, loss and the emotional politics of food in contemporary Cuba.
