A Photographic Study of Urban Agriculture, Resilience and Revolutionary Landscapes in Cuba
Dig for Victory campaign during the Second World War, when communities transformed urban spaces into food gardens in response to hunger and scarcity. The project reflects on how similar strategies could emerge within the “green desert” of contemporary Cuban landscapes, where food shortages continue to shape everyday life.
During Food of War’s visit to Los Pozitos, Cuba, in 2024, the collective encountered a local community group creating urban gardens within neighbourhood spaces as an act of resilience and collective care. As part of the project, Food of War smuggled sweet orange seeds into the territory and planted them collaboratively, transforming the act into both a poetic gesture and a living archive of memory, resistance and future nourishment.
