FOOD OF WAR MANIFESTO

 

• Food is revealed now as a speech, as a strategy, as a statement, what is more, as a menu that presents problems, develops concepts, concludes with ideas and stimulates the soul by leaving it hungrier than before.

 

• War on foods and food on wars, current and as old as human beings exist.

 

• Countries, families and brothers are torn apart by bitter wars. Food of war could heal wounds by sharing their culinary traditions and experiences.

 

• Our proposal is to cook food of war for people to try.

 

• The movement explores how armed conflicts all over the world affect directly the way we eat. How there is a direct relationship between violence and food and how the both influence each other.

 

• There is no substitute for direct contact in order to experience local food and culture, which always and inevitably leaves traces of conflict on the palate.

 

• Food has become a highly charged political object/subject because its capacity to make sense and to make connections. Food effectively dissolves most preconceived distinctions between nature and culture, the individual and the collective, peace and war, body and mind.

 

• When you eat something from a certain culture, you eat a bite of the history of that culture.

 

• We are not trying to overcome the open wounds among its many factions by cooking and eating together. But it would be a way of a large-scale formal reconciliation process between people in conflict.

 

• Food of war is a project in development. It's built around the idea of coexistence through sharing food and sharing tables.

 

• Food of war is all about abundance and generosity, so it won't run out.

 

• If not religion or politics… at least rice, potatoes, pizzas, meat, corn and so on are what human beings unanimously share.

 

• Food of War is a movement whose main goal is to group and display works of art that show the connection between war and food.

 

• Any medium is accepted, as long as it explores the aforementioned connection.

 

• We don’t take sides in any of the conflicts, we don’t have any party affiliation and we don’t follow a political agenda.

 

• We live in a world where we no longer have personal ties to producers and processors. Our production practices have changed. The foods we eat are the result of human manipulation, often with unintended consequences. The politics of food has come to be implicated in the very notion of food itself, what food is and what it should be.
